This is a short workshop on exploring the effects of transformative journaling. Transformative journaling begins with understanding the necessity of writing our lives, minds, and bodies. Writing takes a huge amount of courage. Being fearless and able to take risks is essential for being a good writer.
Dr. Shahd will offer techniques, writing prompts, and read from her book Head Above Water. The book includes a series of journal entries that Dr. Shahd used for writing and publishing Head Above Water. The book is the first book from the Gulf region dealing with disability and identity. Dr. Shahd was blogging for ten years before the publication of the book. She hopes to share her journey and empower readers through their own journeys.
Dr. Shahd Alshammari is a professor of literature and creative writing. She teaches poetry, drama, and literary criticism. Her work has been shortlisted for The Barbellion Award (London) and she has served as a judge for literary prizes internationally. She has taught workshops on narrative and reflective writing and continues to work with emerging writers.
