The Boiled Corn Cart (عربة الذرة المسلوقة)

“The Boiled Corn Cart”, In this workshop, children are welcomed through a short interactive introduction that connects them to the experiences of earlier generations and the atmosphere of traditional neighborhoods. They are then introduced to the “My Mother’s Memory” story series through an engaging, interactive reading of “The Boiled Corn Cart”, supported by visual illustrations. The session also includes creative activities such as making personalized bookmarks with the illustrator, Kinana Mohammad, and exploring a simple printing technique using corn cobs on paper or fabric. The workshop concludes with an opportunity to explore the book series further and attend a signing session.

نبذة عن الورشة
"عربة الذرة المسلوقة"،  تستهل الورشة بمقدمة تفاعلية قصيرة تهدف إلى ربط الأطفال بتجارب الأجيال السابقة وأجواء الأحياء التقليدية. بعد ذلك يتم تقديم سلسلة قصص "ذاكرة أمي" من خلال قراءة تفاعلية مشوقة لقصة "عربة الذرة المسلوقة" مدعومة بالصور التوضيحية، وتشمل الورشة أنشطة إبداعية مثل تصميم فواصل كتب شخصية بمشاركة الرسامة، كنانة محمد، والتعرّف على تقنية الطباعة باستخدام كيزان الذرة على الورق أو القماش، وتُختتم الورشة بإتاحة الفرصة للأطفال لاستكشاف السلسلة واقتناء نسخ منها موقعة من المؤلفة نفسها.

Meet the Contributor

Nadeen is the founder of Dar Al Buma Publishing and Distribution, specializing in children’s books, and a member of the Emirates Publishers Association. She has been working in the field of writing and publishing since 2002, with numerous published books in poetry, novels, literary criticism, and children’s literature. She has published many critical research papers and literary studies in Arab newspapers, magazines, and websites. Nadeen holds a Master’s degree in Critical and Rhetorical Studies (2012) from Homs University, Syria.

The illustrator Kenana Ali Mohammad is a visual artist and interior designer, graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts – University of Damascus. She has been working in the field of children’s book illustration for more than ten years, contributing her artwork to several Arab publishing houses, with her books showcased in both Arab and international exhibitions. She adopts an expressive watercolor style in her work, focusing on highlighting imagination and symbolism in characters and scenes. Her goal is to reach children’s hearts through her illustrations and to make reading a visually rich and enjoyable experience for them.

تعرف على مقدمي الورشة:
نادين هي مؤسسة دار البومة للنشر والتوزيع المتخصصة في كتب الأطفال، وعضو في جمعية الناشرين الإماراتيين. تعمل في مجال الكتابة والنشر منذ عام 2002، ولها العديد من الإصدارات في مجالات الشعر والرواية والنقد الأدبي وأدب الطفل. كما نشرت العديد من الأبحاث النقدية والدراسات الأدبية في صحف ومجلات ومواقع عربية. تحمل نادين درجة الماجستير في الدراسات النقدية والبلاغية (2012) من جامعة حمص في سوريا.

الرسامة كنانة علي محمد، هي فنانة تشكيلية ومصممة داخلية متخرجة من كلية الفنون الجميلة-جامعة دمشق، تعمل في مجال رسوم كتب الأطفال منذ أكثر من عشر سنوات، وقدمت رسوماتها لعدد من دور النشر العربية وشاركت كتبها في معارض عربية ودولية، تعتمد الأسلوب المائي التعبيري في أعمالها، وتهتم بإبراز الخيال والرمزية في الشخصيات والمشاهد، هدفها أن تصل برسوماتها إلى قلوب الأطفال، وتجعل القراءة تجربة بصرية ممتعة وغنية لهم.
